How BSTC papers reach candidates
Understanding how a paper becomes public helps you spot fakes. The rules differ by year. In 2024 candidates were allowed to take away the question paper and the carbon copy of the OMR sheet (Hindustan Times), while the 2017 notification of the University of Kota asked candidates to hand the booklet and OMR sheet to the invigilator. The conducting university then publishes a provisional answer key, accepts objections and publishes a final key (The Quint described this for 2024). Coaching institutes and websites make solved papers from the booklets and from the key.
That means three kinds of material exist online, and they are not equal:
| Type | Who makes it | How far to trust it |
|---|---|---|
| Official answer key | Published by the conducting university or department after the exam | Highest. Use this to score yourself. |
| Scanned booklet | A photo or scan of a candidate’s own booklet | Good for the real questions, but check the series and date on the cover. |
| Memory-based or coach-solved key | Made by coaching staff or websites in the hours after the exam | Use with care. Some sites say openly that their key is based on memory. |
Pattern across years
The structure is stable even though the dates and conducting bodies change. This table is based on the official 2025 syllabus and matches the University of Kota’s 2017 notification and the 2018 booklet cover:
| Section | Questions | Marks per question | Total marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mental Ability | 50 | 3 | 150 |
| General Awareness of Rajasthan | 50 | 3 | 150 |
| Teaching Aptitude | 50 | 3 | 150 |
| Language: English (compulsory) | 20 | 3 | 60 |
| Language: Hindi (General) or Sanskrit (Sanskrit course) | 30 | 3 | 90 |
| Total | 200 | 600 |
In the 2017 solved copy we reviewed, the sections ran in this order: Q1 to Q50 reasoning (Mental Ability), Q51 to Q100 general knowledge of Rajasthan, Q101 to Q150 teaching aptitude, Q151 to Q170 English and Q171 to Q200 Hindi. In the 2018 paper, which we read in full, section A was Mental Ability, B Rajasthan general knowledge, C Teaching Aptitude and D language, with 50 questions each; Section D has English as Q151 to Q170 and Hindi or Sanskrit as Q171 to Q200. The 2019 paper, which we also read in full, followed the same order.
How to use old BSTC papers: a four-week plan
- Week 1: Learn the syllabusRead the official syllabus. List every topic under the five parts. Solve the oldest paper only for reading, to see how questions are worded.
- Week 2: Section-wise practiceTake one section at a time from three different years. Track accuracy and time per question.
- Week 3: Full timed mocksSolve one complete paper every two days in 3 hours with an OMR-style answer grid. Start at 2:00 PM to copy the afternoon schedule that most years used.
- Week 4: Analyse and reviseCompare your answers with the official key. Make a mistake log, revise weak sections and re-solve wrong questions after three days.
Aim to solve at least five full papers before the exam. Recent years (2025, 2024, 2023) tell you the current style, while older years give you extra practice questions.
Safe PDF checklist before you download any BSTC paper
- The page shows a clear exam date and year that match the official exam date on our year page.
- The file opens without asking you to install an app, allow notifications or enter a phone number.
- The paper has 200 questions in four sections of 50 questions (language is split 20 and 30).
- The answer key matches the official key released by the university. If it does not, trust the official key.
- The site does not ask for money for “full paper” access.
Fake and redirect sites
When we tested old exam websites on 3 November 2026, the 2015, 2017 and 2019 addresses did not load and the 2018 address redirected to an unrelated commercial site. Use official university websites, not links in comments or messages.
Mistakes we found in other BSTC pages
While researching, we found several errors that readers should know about. We show them so you can cross-check facts:
- A May 2017 report gave the exam date as 20 April 2017. The government’s own result release, the news reports on the result and the paper cover show 30 April 2017.
- Some pages say a school board conducts BSTC. The reports we read name universities and education-department offices, not a school board.
- One 2020 report described the exam as online. It was a pen-and-paper OMR exam.
- The 2024 exam is easy to mix up with older years. The Quint gives 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM, and the Hindustan Times exam-day rules (entry between 11 AM and 12 noon) fit that, not the 2:00 PM start of earlier years.
- One 2023 report gave the exam time as 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, which does not fit a three-hour paper. We only state that the 2023 exam began in the afternoon at 2:00 PM.
- Some 2019 coverage mixed up university and department names. The Times of India names the Department of Education, Bikaner.
Exam calendar: how fast results came each year
One useful way to read old papers is to see the whole exam cycle. The table counts the days between the exam and the result, using the dates in our sources. It shows that results have become faster: from about five weeks in 2019 and 2020 to three weeks or less in recent years.
| Year | Exam date | Result date | Days from exam to result |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2017 | 30 April 2017 | 3 June 2017 | 34 |
| 2018 | 6 May 2018 | 6 June 2018 | 31 |
| 2019 | 26 May 2019 | 3 July 2019 | 38 |
| 2020 | 31 August 2020 | 7 October 2020 | 37 |
| 2021 | 31 August 2021 | 27 September 2021 | 27 |
| 2022 | 8 October 2022 | 1 November 2022 | 24 |
| 2023 | 28 August 2023 | 29 September 2023 | 32 |
| 2024 | 30 June 2024 | 17 July 2024 | 17 |
| 2025 | 1 June 2025 | 14 June 2025 | 13 |
| 2026 | 20 May 2026 | 10 June 2026 | 21 |
The exam month also moves: April (2015, 2017), May (2016, 2018, 2019, 2026), June (2024, 2025), August (2020, 2021, 2023) and October (2022). If you are planning for the next cycle, do not assume last year’s month. Prepare early and watch the official site of the conducting body.
How to read each year page
Every year page in this series has the same layout so that you can compare quickly:
- At a glance: exam date, conducting body, timing, number of questions and where the result was published.
- Where to get the paper: what is official, what is third-party and how to check a copy.
- Pattern and scoring: the section split and a small calculator-style table to score yourself.
- Practice plan: a plan built around that paper, not a generic template.
- FAQs, sources and last-verified date: so you can see exactly how recent our checks are.
If a fact is missing on a year page, for example the number of candidates in 2018, it is because we could not confirm it from two sources. We prefer to leave a gap than to fill it with a guess.
Mistake log: a simple way to learn from every paper
Copy this table into your notebook. After each paper, write one line for every question you got wrong or guessed. After three papers, patterns appear.
| Field | Example 1 | Example 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Q. number and section | Mental Ability, Q23 | Rajasthan awareness, Q64 |
| What went wrong | Misread the series rule | Did not know the fort |
| Type of mistake | Careless | Knowledge gap |
| Fix | Write the rule before choosing | Add the fort to a revision list |
| Revisit on | Day +3 | Day +7 |
The examples are only to show the format; they are not questions from any real paper.
What is not covered yet
The title of this series mentions earlier years because many candidates search for them. We have not published pages for 2016 or for 2011 to 2014 because we have not finished checking them against official or news sources. For 2016 we have verified only the following: the exam was held on 8 May 2016 by MDSU Ajmer, 5,12,382 candidates registered, 4,78,819 appeared and the topper scored 510 out of 600 (Dainik Bhaskar). We will add a page when the paper and the facts are confirmed.
Old BSTC paper FAQs
Where can I download the old BSTC paper PDF?
The conducting university releases an answer key after the exam, and in some years candidates could take the booklet home, so copies of old papers circulate online. We do not host copies we cannot confirm as public, but for 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 we typed and proofread the papers ourselves, so the 2017 page, the 2018 page, the 2019 page, the 2020 page and the 2021 page each have a free PDF with an unofficial answer key. On each year page we explain what the paper looked like, which official source to use and how to check a PDF before you trust it.
How many old BSTC papers are there?
The exam has been held every year in our records from 2015 to 2026. We have year pages for 2015 and 2017 to 2025. Pages for 2016 and the years before 2015 are not published yet because we are still verifying them.
Which old BSTC paper should I solve first?
Start with the latest cycle that matches the current pattern (2025, then 2024), then go back to 2023 and 2022. The 2017 to 2021 papers are worth solving later; all five have free PDFs and online practice questions on our pages, and the 2018 and 2019 papers also use the unusual Section C preference scoring.
Is the BSTC pattern the same in every year?
The four-section, 200-question, 600-mark structure is reported for 2016 to 2025. Small details can change, for example Section C gave 3, 2, 1 and 0 marks in preference order in 2018 and 2019, and the exam timings differ by year, so check each year page.
Do old BSTC papers repeat questions?
Questions on Rajasthan history, culture and geography and on basic grammar often cover the same topics from year to year. We do not claim exact repeats because we have not compared full papers question by question. Use old papers to learn the topics and the style, not to hunt for the same question.
Is there negative marking in BSTC?
Not in the cycles we checked (2017, 2018, 2021 and 2023). Each question carries 3 marks. Attempt every question.
What are the official websites for BSTC papers and answer keys?
The conducting body publishes them. For the latest cycles that is vmou.ac.in (VMOU Kota). The 2017 exam was run by the University of Kota. Older exam portals such as those of 2015, 2017 and 2019 did not load when we tested them on 3 November 2026.
Can I use these papers for BSTC 2027 preparation?
Yes, for practice. The syllabus and four-section structure have been stable for years, but always confirm the pattern in the official notification when it is released.
