BSTC 2018 exam: date, numbers and booklet instructions
The BSTC paper 2018 was set for an exam held on Sunday, 6 May 2018 by Govind Guru Tribal University (GGTU), Banswara, which the Times of India called the apex body for conducting the BSTC exam that year. It was the only year in our series when this university was the conducting body.
GGTU opened applications on 12 February 2018 with a closing date of 10 March. The fee was ₹400 for one course and ₹450 for two, candidates needed 50 per cent marks in Class 12 (45 per cent for reserved categories) and the age limit was 28 years on 1 July 2018 (Indian Express, 14 February 2018). Admit cards were released on 26 April 2018. The result followed on Wednesday, 6 June 2018, exactly 31 days after the exam, and could be checked by form number, token number, roll number, general details or mobile number (Times of India, 7 June 2018).
We could not find a reliable official count of how many candidates appeared in 2018. An Indian Express live blog written in 2019 referred to 6.52 lakh registrations for 2018, but we treat it as indicative because the report is loosely worded.
What the 2018 question booklet cover says
The cover of the question booklet we reviewed is labelled NKP-2018, Series A, has 32 pages, allows three hours and carries 600 marks. It says:
- The booklet has 200 questions in four sections, A, B, C and D, with 50 questions each.
- Section D has two parts: Q151 to Q170 are English and are compulsory, while for Q171 to Q200 the candidate chooses Sanskrit or Hindi.
- A candidate who applied for both the Sanskrit and General courses has to opt for Sanskrit in Section D.
- All questions are compulsory. Each question carries 3 marks in Sections A, B and D. Marks for Section C are given as 3, 2, 1 and 0 in the preference order.
- There is no negative marking. Complaints about the booklet are entertained only within 15 minutes of the start of the exam.
The Section C rule is the most unusual detail. Marks there are given by preference: the best option earns 3 marks, the next 2, then 1, and the rest 0. We have now read the paper section by section: Section C is Teaching Aptitude (Q101 to Q150), which is where a best-answer rule makes sense. The official answer key therefore lists 3, 2, 1 and 0 marks for every option instead of one correct letter.

How we made the answer key
The answer key in the PDF is labelled “ParinamSetu answer key (unofficial)”. It starts from the official Series-A key published by Govind Guru Tribal University, which we checked as follows:
- We solved every Mental Ability, English, Hindi and Sanskrit question ourselves and compared the result with the official key. Our answers matched the key for all but a few questions.
- We checked the Rajasthan GK answers against our own notes and searched for a second published solution for the doubtful ones (11 questions were confirmed this way).
- Four questions are disputed (Q33, Q49, Q60 and Q74). We show the official answer and explain the doubt instead of changing it.
- The university dropped two questions (Q28 and Q67). They are printed in the paper but have no answer.
- Teaching Aptitude (Q101 to Q150) is scored by preference marks (3, 2, 1 and 0). The PDF and this page show the best answer and the marks for every option, as published.
- The Sanskrit key (Q171 to Q200) is included, and our own check agrees with it on all 30 questions.
Unofficial key built on the official one: verify before you rely on it
We found two hosted copies of the official key, but they are the same document, so this is not a cross-check against two independent official keys. If the university publishes a different final key or a source you trust disagrees with ours, follow the university.
Official site and fake-link warning
The official 2018 website, bstcggtu2018.com, no longer works as an exam site: when we tested it on 3 November 2026 it forwarded to an unrelated commercial site. Do not enter personal details on any site that you reach through that address or through old links.
Other 2018 PDFs on the web
Scanned solved copies of the 2018 paper circulate on coaching and result sites. If you use one, check the points below first. The explanations in those copies belong to the coaching institutes that wrote them, so we did not reuse them.
- The cover shows NKP-2018 (Series-A), 32 pages and the instructions listed above.
- Questions 1 to 50 are Mental Ability, Q51 to Q100 are Rajasthan GK, Q101 to Q150 are Teaching Aptitude and Q151 to Q170 are English.
- Q171 to Q200 appear twice, once in Hindi and once in Sanskrit.
- The answers match the official university key, and Q28 and Q67 are shown as dropped.
- The site does not ask for payment or app installation.
BSTC 2018 exam pattern and marking
The 2018 booklet cover and news reports describe the same four-section, 200-question, 600-mark structure as other years.
| Section | Questions | Marks per question | Total marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mental Ability | 50 | 3 | 150 |
| General Awareness of Rajasthan | 50 | 3 | 150 |
| Teaching Aptitude | 50 | 3 | 150 |
| Language: English (compulsory) | 20 | 3 | 60 |
| Language: Hindi (General) or Sanskrit (Sanskrit course) | 30 | 3 | 90 |
| Total | 200 | 600 |
How the 2018 paper was laid out. We read all 200 questions of the Series-A booklet:
| Questions | Section | What the questions looked like |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 to Q50 | Part A: Mental Ability | Reasoning, arithmetic, figures and logic |
| Q51 to Q100 | Part B: General Awareness, Rajasthan | Art, history, polity, geography, current events |
| Q101 to Q150 | Part C: Teaching Aptitude | Classroom situations, scored 3, 2, 1, 0 by preference |
| Q151 to Q170 | Part D: English (compulsory) | Sentence correction, vocabulary, a passage, grammar |
| Q171 to Q200 | Part D: Hindi or Sanskrit (choose one) | Grammar, word formation, idioms; Sanskrit grammar |
Section D has English (Q151 to Q170, compulsory) and Sanskrit or Hindi (Q171 to Q200). Remember that the 3 marks per question in the table above apply to Sections A, B and D only; Section C used the 3, 2, 1 and 0 preference scoring described earlier. Q28 and Q67 were dropped.
BSTC 2018 paper analysis: what each section tested
This analysis comes from reading all 200 questions of the paper, not from anyone’s summary. You can open every question further down this page or in the PDF.
Mental Ability (Q1 to Q50)
The section opened with three figure puzzles (a ring, three triangles and a pentagon), followed by a house-order puzzle (Q4), a marks-ranking puzzle (Q5) and a portrait blood-relation question (Q6). Profit and loss (Q7), a percentage question (Q8), two age problems (Q10 and Q35), a calendar question (Q18) and a clock-angle question (Q46) made up the arithmetic. Coding and analogy questions dominated: Q9, Q11 to Q17, Q26, Q27, Q29 and Q30 make twelve questions, including letter-pair analogies, jumbled-word analogies, a colour-substitution puzzle and a number code. Seven questions asked for the odd one out (Q19 to Q21 words, Q22 to Q25 number pairs), four used a Venn-style figure of Tennis, Badminton and Volley Ball (Q37 to Q40), three used a teacher-and-subject table (Q41 to Q43) and four were statement and conclusion questions (Q47 to Q50). Q28 was dropped by the university.
General awareness of Rajasthan (Q51 to Q100)
The section mixed several areas. Art and culture: Hela Khayal (Q51), Pichwai (Q52), the Bari ornament (Q55), the first Rajasthani film (Q59), the Jaipur gharana (Q72), Phad painting (Q73), Kalbeliya dance (Q74), Bagru printing (Q75) and Charandas Chor (Q88). History and people: Maharana Pratap (Q56), the Sisodias (Q70), the first grammar of Rajasthani (Q71), the Gandhi of Rajasthan (Q62), Daulat Ram Saran (Q78) and Vijay Singh Pathik (Q87). Geography and economy: lowest-density districts (Q53), the first wind power plant (Q54), Degana (Q61), the bird hospital (Q63), rainfall periods (Q81), the Indira Gandhi canal (Q82), the Luni (Q83), Chand Baori (Q84), NH-8 (Q95) and the Aravalli districts (Q92). Polity: the chief minister who took oath most often (Q60), the longest-serving chief minister (Q77), the Rajasthan Vikas Party (Q79), the speaker of the 14th Vidhan Sabha (Q80), Panchayati Raj at Nagaur (Q93) and the first women chief secretary and Human Rights Commission chairperson (Q99 and Q100). Two questions were recent events for 2018: Kamlesh Nagarkoti in the Under-19 World Cup (Q90) and the 2017 Sahitya Akademi award for Rajasthani (Q97). Q67 on Kalibangan was dropped.
Teaching Aptitude (Q101 to Q150)
Almost every question was a classroom situation or a belief about teaching: a student who comes late (Q105), punishment criteria (Q104), a gifted student who answers everything quickly (Q136), poor students who want extra time (Q143), a student who fights with an old man on a journey (Q144), a student with a theft habit (Q123) and a student who asks a question during the lesson (Q128). Method and technology appeared too: audio-visual material (Q147), learner-centred communication (Q148) and ICT in the classroom (Q149). The 3-mark answers favour finding the reason, explaining and guiding instead of punishing or ignoring. In the official key the 3-mark option was A in 20 of the 50 questions, but do not guess by letter: each question has its own logic.
English (Q151 to Q170)
The English part had a sentence-completion item (Q151), a synonym and an antonym (Q152 and Q153), two spelling questions (Q154 and Q167), two one-word substitutions (Q155 and Q168), a four-question passage on understanding between nations (Q156 to Q159), three fill-in-the-blank items (Q160 to Q162), a negative transformation (Q163), a positive-degree conversion (Q164), a tense item (Q165), a direct-to-indirect narration (Q166) and a final synonym and antonym (Q169 and Q170). All 20 questions are rule-based and worth 60 marks.
Hindi and Sanskrit (Q171 to Q200)
The Hindi set covered sandhi (Q171, Q172), samas (Q173, Q174), prefixes (Q175, Q176), a bhavavachak taddhit suffix (Q177), synonyms and antonyms (Q178 to Q182, Q195 and Q196), sentence type and correctness (Q183 to Q185), idioms (Q186 and Q199), parts of language (Q187, Q188 and Q189), tense, noun and conjunction (Q190 to Q193), a feminine suffix (Q194), words with many meanings (Q197), one word for a phrase (Q198) and a proverb (Q200). The Sanskrit set covered the place of articulation (Q171, Q172, Q199), upsargas (Q173, Q174), pratyayas (Q175, Q177, Q194, Q195), karakas (Q178, Q179, Q191), samasa (Q180 to Q182, Q193), sandhi (Q183 to Q186, Q197), verb and noun forms (Q187 to Q189, Q200), correct sentences (Q190, Q196), sutras (Q192) and the author of the vartika (Q198).
2018 के पेपर में बुद्धिमत्ता (1-50), राजस्थान सामान्य ज्ञान (51-100), शिक्षण अभिक्षमता (101-150), अंग्रेज़ी (151-170) और हिन्दी या संस्कृत (171-200) का क्रम रहा; खंड C में प्राथमिकता के आधार पर 3, 2, 1, 0 अंक दिए गए।
How to solve the BSTC 2018 paper as a timed mock
A paper only helps if you solve it under exam conditions. Treat the 2018 paper like the real exam: 200 questions, 3 hours, one sitting, an OMR-style answer grid and no phone.
- Set up the roomPick a fixed slot, ideally in the afternoon, and use the same slot for every mock so that your timing data is comparable. Keep a blue or black ballpoint pen, a watch and a printed copy of the paper. Do not open the answer key.
- Choose your orderMany candidates start with the language and Teaching Aptitude sections because they are faster, then take Mental Ability and Rajasthan awareness. Try two orders in two mocks and keep the one that scores more.
- Mark as you goFill the answer grid after each section, not at the end, to avoid running out of time. Remember that there is no negative marking in the cycles we checked, so never leave a blank.
- Log your timeWrite down the minutes you took for each section. Your target is about 54 seconds per question on average.
- Score with the official keyUse the official answer key where one is available. Count each section separately and note the weakest one.
| Part | Questions | Suggested time |
|---|---|---|
| Mental Ability | 50 | 40 min |
| Rajasthan awareness | 50 | 25 min |
| Teaching Aptitude | 50 | 40 min |
| English | 20 | 20 min |
| Hindi or Sanskrit | 30 | 25 min |
| OMR check and review | — | 30 min |
The time plan is our suggestion for practice. It adds up to 180 minutes. Change it after your first mock if one section needs more time.
Score yourself on the BSTC 2018 paper
Each question in the 2018 pattern is worth 3 marks and wrong answers do not lose marks, so your score is simply 3 times the number of correct answers. This table converts correct answers into marks on the 600-mark scale.
| Correct answers | Marks out of 600 | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 300 | 50% (General qualifying percentage reported in 2019 and 2026) |
| 90 | 270 | 45% (qualifying percentage for reserved categories) |
| 120 | 360 | 60% |
| 150 | 450 | 75% |
| 170 | 510 | 85%, the topper’s score in 2016 (510 marks) |
| 171 | 513 | 85.5%, the General topper’s score in 2017 (513 marks) |
Special case for 2018: the booklet says Section C is scored 3, 2, 1 and 0 in preference order, so the table above applies exactly only to Sections A, B and D. For Section C, compare your option with the official best answer and give yourself 3, 2, 1 or 0 depending on how far it was from the best one.
Qualifying is not the same as getting a seat. Seats are allotted by merit rank in counselling, so compare your score with the toppers and with the number of seats and candidates that year, not with the qualifying mark alone.
Seven-day revision loop using the BSTC 2018 paper
If you have one week, this loop gets the most from a single paper. Repeat it with a new year each week.
| Day | Task | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Full timed mock on the 2018 paper | Score and section timings |
| Day 2 | Check answers; write the mistake log | List of wrong and guessed questions |
| Day 3 | Study the weakest section from the syllabus | Notes and one-page summary |
| Day 4 | Section-only practice from another year | Accuracy percentage |
| Day 5 | Re-solve the wrong questions from Day 2 | Fewer repeat errors |
| Day 6 | Language revision: grammar and vocabulary | Quick marks in 50 questions |
| Day 7 | Second timed mock on a different year | Compare with Day 1 |
Candidates who improve usually do so in the weakest section, not in the one they already like. Keep the mistake log short and honest.

At this stage of civilisation, when many nations are brought in to close and vital contact for good and evil, it is essential, as never before, that their gross ignorance of one another should be diminished, that they should begin to understand a little of one another’s historical experience and resulting mentality. It is the fault of the English to expect the people of other countries to react as they do, to political and international situations.
