BSTC Exam Tough Hai Ya Easy? Honest Analysis

Is BSTC tough? · Honest analysis with numbers

Is BSTC tough? To qualify, it is moderate: General candidates need 300 of 600 marks, which is 100 correct answers. To get a government college seat, it is tough: in 2026 about 19 candidates fought for each seat, toppers scored over 90 per cent and only about 1,750 seats sit in government institutes. This page shows the numbers behind that verdict.

बीएसटीसी पास करना मध्यम है (600 में से 300 अंक), पर सरकारी कॉलेज की सीट पाना कठिन है क्योंकि प्रतिस्पर्धा बहुत है।

  • Qualify: 100 correct of 200
  • About 19 candidates per seat
  • Toppers: 85% to 93%
  • No negative marking

Is BSTC tough or easy? Quick verdict

Quick verdict

Qualifying: moderate. A top rank: tough. The marks needed to pass are low. The seats are limited, and the competition decides your college.

Factor Number
Qualifying marks (General) 300 of 600 = 100 correct answers
Qualifying marks (reserved) 270 of 600 = 90 correct answers
Questions and time 200 in 180 minutes, about 54 seconds each
Negative marking None (reports)
Candidates per seat, 2026 About 19 (our arithmetic)

How high is the qualifying bar?

The qualifying mark is 50 per cent for General and 45 per cent for the other categories, and you reach it with 100 or 90 correct answers. With no negative marking, you can attempt every question, so a prepared candidate can reach 100 correct. That is why we call passing moderate. See BSTC negative marking and BSTC cut off 2026.

Competition in BSTC: candidates per seat

Year Appeared Seats reported Candidates per seat
2017 3,91,027 18,570 About 21
2019 Nearly 7 lakh About 14,500 to 15,000 About 47 to 48 (our rough estimate)
2025 5,49,161 25,977 About 21
2026 4,97,178 About 25,970 About 19

The ratio is our arithmetic. It does not say how many seats were filled. For 2019 we use the report’s own “nearly 7 lakh” and the seat range, so treat it as rough. The 2026 ratio is the lowest of the years we could compute, partly because fewer candidates appeared than in 2025 (4,97,178 against 5,49,161).

Topper scores by year

Year Topper score Share of 600
2016 510 of 600 85.0%
2017 513 of 600 (General topper) 85.5%
2023 525 of 600 87.5%
2024 558 of 600 93.0%
2026 552.6076 of 600 About 92.1%

Toppers are not the norm, but they show that very high scores are possible. For the details and names, see BSTC result 2026 and the old BSTC paper hub.

Past BSTC cut-offs: what is confirmed

Year Confirmed marks Source
2026 300 (General), 270 (reserved) NDTV India, Careers360, Jagran Josh
2019 50% (General), 45% (reserved) reported News reports on our 2019 and hub pages
Closing marks by college and category No official list found for any year —

We do not copy the “expected” cut-off lists on other sites because four of them disagree with each other by up to 70 marks for the same category. For the full analysis, read BSTC cut off 2026.

Time pressure and the paper

The paper has 200 questions in 3 hours. That is 54 seconds per question on average, and the Mental Ability and aptitude questions are slower than the Rajasthan GK or language questions. A practical split is to take about 40 minutes for Mental Ability, 25 for Rajasthan GK, 40 for Teaching Aptitude and 45 for language, and leave the last 30 minutes for the OMR. These times are our suggestion; the hub has the full plan in the BSTC complete guide.

How tough is a government seat?

The college list we reviewed shows 37 government institutions with 1,750 seats of 25,920. In 2026, 4,97,178 candidates appeared. If seats were given strictly by rank, a government seat would be in the top 1,750, which is about 0.35 per cent of those who appeared. Reservation, gender splits and vacant seats change that, so it is only a rough guide. Later rounds also reached lower marks. See BSTC allotment list 2026.

Who finds BSTC easy, and who finds it tough

Level Goal
Easy You target a private or later-round seat, and you cover all five parts
Moderate You target a seat in your home district and solve full papers regularly
Tough You target a government college in the first round

Our verdict does not account for individual strengths. If you are weak in Rajasthan GK, which is 150 marks, start there. For the best books, see BSTC best books.

How long to prepare, by starting point (our suggestion)

You are Time Focus
Starting from zero, strong in reasoning 60 to 90 days Focus on Rajasthan awareness and language
Starting from zero, weak in reasoning 90 to 120 days Daily reasoning practice
Already studied the syllabus once 30 to 45 days Full papers and a mistake log

These ranges are our suggestion based on the pattern, not data from toppers. Use BSTC best books and BSTC exam pattern to plan.

Is BSTC tough? FAQs

Is BSTC tough?

Passing is not hard: General candidates need 300 of 600, which is 100 correct answers out of 200. Getting a good college seat is hard: about 19 candidates competed for each seat in 2026, and the toppers scored over 90 per cent. So it is moderate to qualify and tough to rank high.

What is the BSTC difficulty level?

There is no official difficulty rating. We judge it from numbers: the qualifying mark is 50 per cent, but competition is high and the paper allows only about 54 seconds per question.

BSTC kitna tough hai?

What are the BSTC cut-off marks?

The confirmed numbers are qualifying marks: 300 (General) and 270 (reserved) in 2026. We found no official list of the closing marks at each college, and the websites that publish such lists disagree. See BSTC cut off 2026.

How many candidates cleared BSTC 2026?

We did not find an official count of qualified candidates in the reports we read. We know 4,97,178 appeared and about 25,970 seats were reported.

Is BSTC easier than PTET?

The pattern is almost the same (200 questions, 600 marks, four parts), so the difficulty is similar. The competition differs because the candidate pools differ. See BSTC vs PTET.

Is BSTC easy to crack in the first attempt?

Yes, if you target the qualifying marks and a private college seat. For a government institute, the top 1,750 or so ranks matter, which is about the top 0.35 per cent of the candidates who appeared in 2026 (our arithmetic).

How many hours should I study for BSTC?

We do not know a fixed number that works for all. A better rule is to complete the syllabus in 60 days and then solve full papers. See BSTC best books.
