10th ke baad kya kare? After Class 10 in Rajasthan you can choose Science, Commerce or Arts in Class 11 (and Agriculture where the school has it), or a three-year polytechnic diploma, or an ITI trade. This guide explains how to choose a stream, what each leads to, the 2026 change that lets government school students take four elective subjects, and the questions to ask your school. It gives no salary or cut-off figures.

10th ke baad kya kare: quick answer
Quick answer
Choose by three things: your marks in Maths, Science and the languages, what you enjoy and what the school offers. Science is for engineering and medicine routes, Commerce for accounts and business, Arts for a wide range of degrees. A polytechnic or ITI is the route if you want a skill or a diploma sooner.
| Choice | Core subjects | Leads to |
|---|---|---|
| Science | Physics, Chemistry and Maths or Biology | JEE Main with REAP, NEET UG, B.Sc |
| Commerce | Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics | B.Com, CUET UG, CA, CS, CMA |
| Arts | History, Geography, Political Science, languages and more | BA, CUET UG, teaching routes |
| Agriculture | Agricultural Chemistry and Biology (where the school offers it) | Check agriculture admission notices |
| Polytechnic | Technical diploma, 3 years | Jobs or lateral entry |
| ITI | Trade courses | Jobs or a trade |
Class 10 results are in RBSE 10th class result 2026. The sister guide for after Class 12 is RBSE 12th ke baad kya kare.
What past students chose: Class 12 numbers, 2026
| Stream | Appeared in Class 12 | Share (our arithmetic) | Pass percentage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arts | 5,83,201 | about 65% | 97.54% |
| Science | 2,85,299 | about 32% | 97.52% |
| Commerce | 30,580 | about 3% | 93.64% |
The numbers come from the Times of India stream table in RBSE 12th result 2026. They show what students chose two years earlier, not what is best for you, and they do not show the Agriculture group. The pass percentage of a stream does not tell you how hard it is; see RBSE checking aur marking.
Science after 10th
The Class 12 board subjects for Science include Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, with Computer Science and Informatics Practices as options (board syllabus PDF, 2025-26). Chemistry, for example, has 56 theory marks, 14 sessional marks and a 30-mark practical. If you choose Science, you will spend more time on practicals and numerical work. Engineering routes need Mathematics, and medical routes need Biology; the NTA bulletins say so. We found no statewide minimum percentage in Class 10 for Science in Rajasthan, and the school allots sections as teachers allow, so ask the school for its own rule.
Commerce after 10th
Commerce subjects in the Class 12 board list include Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics. Many Commerce students later choose a B.Com, a CUET UG route or the CA, CS and CMA foundations, which are open to any stream. See RBSE 12th ke baad kya kare for the options after Class 12.
Arts after 10th
Arts offers History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration, Home Science, Physical Education and language and literature subjects, including Sanskrit, Hindi, English and Rajasthani literature (board syllabus PDF and the supplementary timetable). Arts is also the stream with the most students in Rajasthan. It leads to a BA and, after a degree, to the B.Ed entrance and many recruitment exams. For teaching after Class 12 see BSTC (Pre D.El.Ed) complete guide. Which subjects are available depends on the school, so ask early.
Agriculture: a stream that exists, with limits
The Class 12 supplementary timetable in 2026 lists Agricultural Chemistry and Agricultural Biology as exam papers, so an Agriculture group exists in some schools. We found no official list of the schools that offer it and no admission rules, so we do not describe them. If you are interested, ask your school and the district education office.
Four elective subjects in Class 11: the 2026 rule
ETV Bharat reported on 14 April 2026 that the Rajasthan school education department issued new norms for government senior secondary schools, in line with the National Education Policy. A Class 11 student can take four elective subjects with English as the compulsory subject, or continue with the old system of three electives and two compulsory subjects. The report adds these points:
- Where a school has teacher posts, a fourth subject can be economics, mathematics, biology or Hindi.
- Science students can take at most two fourth-subject options, chosen by the head of the school.
- Arts and Commerce students get one such option.
- Computer science is allowed as a fourth subject if a computer instructor post is sanctioned, and physical education if a PTI post is sanctioned.
The education minister told school heads to take subject choices from students and to arrange counselling. We could not open the order itself, so check the school.
Polytechnic and ITI after 10th
| Route | Basics | What it leads to |
|---|---|---|
| Polytechnic diploma | Three years; Department of Technical Education, Rajasthan; first-year admission page at the Department of Technical Education admissions page; Class 10 pass is the entry condition; branches such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science are reported | Entry to jobs or lateral entry into the second year of a degree; check the notice for the course |
| ITI | One to two years, by trade; eligibility depends on the trade (Class 8 or Class 10, and sometimes Science and Maths); age 14 or more (Careers360) | A trade qualification; the board’s main page lists a revised order on the equivalence of polytechnic and ITI training with Class 10 and 12 |
ITI admission in Rajasthan runs through the state portal, and the 2026-27 round was already complete when we checked (Careers360). We do not give dates for the next round.
Arts, Science and Commerce: a plain comparison

How to choose a stream, step by step
- Write down your Class 10 marks by subjectLook at Maths, Science, Social Science and the languages, not only the total.
- List what you enjoy doingAsk what you read or build in your free time. This helps more than the pressure of friends.
- Find what the school offersMany government schools run only one or two streams, and some English medium schools run Science only (Dainik Bhaskar, undated).
- Check the next stepLook at the entrance exam or degree you want after Class 12 and which stream it needs. See RBSE 12th ke baad kya kare.
- Talk to a teacher and a parentThe minister has told school heads to counsel students, so use it.
- Keep a second choiceKnow what you will do if the first stream is full.
If your Class 10 marks are lower than you hoped
Check whether the marks are right first. The scrutiny route, which checks totals and missing marks, is explained in RBSE revaluation aur scrutiny 2026. If you did not pass, the supplementary exam is in RBSE supplementary exam 2026. A lower score does not close every door: a polytechnic or an ITI route, or a stream with different subjects, may fit better. Ask the school what it offers before you decide.
A note for parents
Let the child say which subjects they enjoy, and then look at the school’s options together. Use the counselling that school heads are asked to give, and keep the decision flexible. A stream chosen by a relative’s advice or a neighbour’s result often does not fit. We found no official data that links a stream to a better outcome, so we do not make that claim.
Questions to ask the school
- Which streams and subject combinations are available in Class 11?
- Is there a fourth elective option, and which subjects does the school offer under the new rule?
- What is the medium of instruction in each subject?
- Are there laboratory and practical facilities for Science?
- Are the teachers for each subject in place?
- What is the process and last date for Class 11 admission?
Common beliefs we checked
| Belief | What we found |
|---|---|
| “Science is the only good stream” | Science leads to engineering and medicine routes, but Commerce and Arts lead to many degrees and professional courses |
| “Arts has no scope” | We found no data that supports this. Arts is the largest stream and leads to a BA and the teaching routes |
| “You need 75 percent for Science” | We found no statewide rule, so ask the school |
| “You cannot change stream” | We did not find the rule; ask the school before you choose |
What comes after Class 12
Choosing a stream is the first step. After Class 12 you can follow the paths in RBSE 12th ke baad kya kare. For the Class 12 board scheme see RBSE passing marks and RBSE checking aur marking. Teaching after Class 12 is in BSTC (Pre D.El.Ed) complete guide.
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Better step |
|---|---|
| Choosing by friends | Choose by your own marks and interest |
| Ignoring what the school offers | Check the school’s subject list first |
| Waiting for the last date | Seats in popular sections may fill early |
| Choosing a stream for a number you saw online | We found no official figure for salaries or cut-offs, so we publish none |
