Mark splits from the board syllabus

Subject type Theory Sessional Practical Total
Most subjects (Hindi, English, Economics, History, Political Science, Business Studies, Sanskrit) 80 20 0 100
Science subjects with practical (Physics, Chemistry) 56 14 30 100
Computer Science and Informatics Practices 56 (from unit marks) 14 (our inference) 30 100

Source: the board’s Class 12 syllabus PDF for 2025-26, for 2025-26. Class 10 is reported to use 80 theory plus 20 internal marks (see RBSE 10th class result 2026). The sessional marks are given by the school. Details on how those marks are checked are in RBSE checking aur marking.

Aggregate marks needed to pass

Class Total marks 33 per cent Basis
Class 10 600 (six subjects, from the 599 of 600 topper figure) 198 NDTV rule
Class 12 500 (five subjects, from the 499 of 500 topper figure) 165 Indian Express rule

The totals are our reading of the toppers’ figures in RBSE topper list 2026, not a board table. Students with fewer or more subjects, for example an extra subject, should work out their own total.

Grades in Class 5 and 8

Grade Marks
A 81 to 100
B 61 to 80
C 41 to 60
D 33 to 40
E (supplementary) 0 to 32

The Class 8 ranges are from the Times of India; Class 5 uses the same ranges (Indian Express). Class 10 and 12 results are shown as marks, not grades. In 2026 the pass percentage was 97.75 for Class 5 and 97.01 for Class 8.

Do theory and practical need separate pass marks?

Source What it says
One education site (IE Education) Candidates must score at least 33 of 100 in a subject; it lists 56 plus 14 plus 30 for science subjects
Another guide (TrueJobs, Careers360 and others) Theory and practical each need to be passed at 33 per cent

The two readings give different results for a student strong in the practical and weak in the paper. We did not find the board’s text on this, so we do not choose one. Ask the school, and read the scheme under your subject on the board’s syllabus page.

Grace marks and rumours

You may see posts about grace marks of one or two marks. We searched for an official rule and found none, so we state no number of grace marks. If the board gives any such rule, it will be in a board order, not on a social media page.

  • Do not plan an exam strategy around grace marks.
  • Do not pay anyone who says they can add marks.
  • If your total is wrong, apply for scrutiny; see RBSE revaluation aur scrutiny 2026.

If you do not pass

A student who fails in one or two subjects is placed in the supplementary category in the reports we read, and can appear in May. The 2026 results of that exam are in RBSE supplementary exam 2026. What happens to a student who fails in more subjects is set by the board notice for your year, and we did not find that rule. For the open school, see RSOS result 2026, which has its own rules.

Supplementary pass mark and results

2026 supplementary Result
Class 10 64.69% passed (16,991 of 26,266)
Class 12 71.65% passed (4,822 of 6,730)

Check the rule for your year

  1. Open the board’s syllabus page the board’s syllabus page and download the booklet or PDF for your class.
  2. Find the “examination scheme” block of your subject. It shows paper, sessional and practical marks.
  3. Look for any line that says “minimum pass marks”. We did not find it in the Class 12 subject pages we read.
  4. If it is not there, ask the school for the board order on the pass rule for your year.

Common mistakes

Mistake Correction
Thinking 33 means 33 in the paper only The reported rule is 33 per cent of the subject total; the practical rule is unclear
Ignoring the aggregate In Class 10 the aggregate also matters
Relying on a grace-mark post No official rule found
Using last year’s rule without checking The two-exam change from 2026-27 may bring new rules; see RBSE kya hai
