D.El.Ed full form and meaning
The D.El.Ed full form is Diploma in Elementary Education. NCTE Regulations 2014 (Appendix 2) describe it as a two-academic-year programme that prepares teachers for the elementary stage, classes I to VIII, and allow up to three years to finish. Eligibility in the regulation is Class 12 with at least 50 per cent marks, with relaxation for reserved categories as per the state rules.
The Supreme Court has since held that, for the recruitment of primary teachers (classes I to V), D.El.Ed is the prescribed qualification. See BSTC vs B.Ed.

Other states and other names
In the Supreme Court judgment on primary teachers, the qualification is written as D.El.Ed/BTC, which shows that other states used BTC for the same kind of course. Admission systems differ by state, and so do recruitment rules. Do not assume that a BSTC certificate is accepted everywhere without checking the recruiting body. We did not verify rules state by state.
Which name should you use?
- In forms and certificates, use the name printed on the official notice: Pre D.El.Ed and D.El.Ed.
- In search, both BSTC and D.El.Ed work.
- When you talk to colleges, say D.El.Ed (General) or D.El.Ed (Sanskrit).

Note the difference between what the regulation says (classes I to VIII) and what the Supreme Court said about recruitment (D.El.Ed is the prescribed qualification for classes I to V). How to read job and college ads that use these names
- If an ad says “BSTC” or “D.El.Ed” it means the same course. If it says “BTC”, check the state.
- If an ad says “D.El.Ed (NIOS)”, check that it is for in-service teachers only.
- If an ad says “special BSTC”, it is the special-education diploma, not the normal one. See Special BSTC 2026
- If an ad promises “BSTC in 6 months”, it is not the two-year NCTE course. Do not pay.

Is BSTC and D.El.Ed same?
Yes for the course. BSTC (Basic School Teaching Certificate) is the older Rajasthan name; D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education) is the name used by NCTE and by the 2026 Rajasthan notification, which says “Formerly known as B.S.T.C.”. Pre D.El.Ed is the entrance exam.
What is D.El.Ed full form?

What is the BSTC D.El.Ed difference?

What was the old name of D.El.Ed?

Is BSTC valid in other states?
Teacher recruitment in other states asks for an NCTE-recognised D.El.Ed or equivalent. We did not verify state-by-state rules, so check the recruiting body for your target state.
Is D.El.Ed (Sanskrit) different from D.El.Ed (General)?
Same duration, different language track: 75% of D.El.Ed (Sanskrit) seats go to Senior Upadhyay pass candidates and 25% to those who studied Sanskrit as an elective in Class 12.
