If your Class 12 percentage is at least 50 (General) or 45 (listed categories) and you are 28 or younger on the exam date, you meet the main rules. Check the table below for your category.

Who is eligible for BSTC? Category-wise table 2026

Category Minimum 12th marks Age rule Key paper or rule
General 50% Up to 28 years on exam date Apply only if 12th percentage is 50.00% or more
SC / ST 45% 28 years plus Rajasthan government relaxation Certificate must show Rajasthan domicile
OBC / SBC / MBC / EWS 45% 28 years plus Rajasthan government relaxation OBC certificate valid one year; non-creamy-layer affidavit can extend it, up to 3 years in total
Divyang (40% or more) 45% 28 years Medical board certificate under Rajasthan Divyang Employment Rules, 2000
Widowed / deserted / divorced women 45% No age limit Death certificate or court decree, and notarised affidavit of no remarriage
Candidates from other states As per category (General only) 28 years No reservation; up to 5% of seats on merit

The marks column is for the Class 12 percentage shown on your marksheet. It is not the same as the qualifying score for the exam, which is covered in BSTC cut off 2026.

Marks rule: no rounding

The notification says that the minimum percentage cannot be missed even by a fraction. Its own example: a General candidate with 49.99 per cent, or a reserved candidate with 44.99 per cent, is not eligible. So do not round 49.6 to 50.

  • Candidates who are appearing in the 2026 exam can apply, but they must show the passing marksheet with the required percentage by the time of counselling.
  • Those who passed Senior Upadhyay (Sanskrit) in Class 12 must choose the Senior Upadhyay option in the form.

Old-system Higher Secondary passes from the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan, Ajmer are also accepted if other conditions are met.

BSTC age limit

Your age must not be more than 28 years on the date of the exam, not on the date of the form or counselling. Widowed, divorced and deserted women have no age limit. SC, ST, OBC, MBC, EWS candidates and women get relaxation as per Rajasthan state government rules. Those rules are outside the notification, and the notification does not give the number of years, so check the rules for your category on the official portal before you pay the fee.

The notification asks you to write your name and your parents’ names exactly as they appear on the Class 10 certificate.

Rajasthan domicile and candidates from other states

Reservation is given as per Rajasthan government rules, and certificates must show Rajasthan domicile. If the caste certificate does not say Rajasthan, you need a separate domicile (mool niwas) certificate in the prescribed format from the District Magistrate or SDM. Candidates from other states are treated as General and get no reservation. They may fill at most 5 per cent of seat capacity on merit.

Divyang candidates

A disability certificate of 40 per cent or more from a medical board, under the Rajasthan Divyang Employment Rules, 2000, is needed for the reserved posts. The notification also lists conditions that stop a candidate from entering the course because they obstruct classroom teaching: being unable to speak, complete deafness, having no hands (so no blackboard work), or having no legs (so unable to stand in class). Visually impaired candidates and others are eligible. If you want the special-education diploma instead, read Special BSTC 2026.

D.El.Ed (Sanskrit) and minority language rules

D.El.Ed (General) Open to all eligible candidates; fee ₹450 for one course

BSTC eligibility FAQs

Who is eligible for BSTC 2026?

A candidate who has passed Class 12 (or an equivalent exam from a recognised board) with at least 50 per cent marks (45 per cent for the listed categories), and who is not older than 28 years on the date of the exam. Residents of Rajasthan get state reservation; others can apply in the General category (VMOU Pre D.El.Ed 2026 general directions).

What is BSTC eligibility in marks?

General: 50 per cent. SC/ST, OBC (including SBC, MBC and EWS), Divyang with 40 per cent or more disability, and widowed, deserted or divorced women: 45 per cent. The notification says even a fraction short, such as 49.99 or 44.99, makes you ineligible.

What is the BSTC age limit?

Not more than 28 years on the exam date. There is no age limit for widowed, divorced and deserted women. SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS candidates and women get relaxation as per Rajasthan government rules. The notification we read does not print the number of relaxation years, so we do not state one.

What percentage is required in BSTC?

The percentage in the table is for Class 12 marks. For the exam itself, news reports say candidates need 300 of 600 (General) and 270 of 600 (reserved) to qualify. See BSTC cut off 2026.

Can I apply for BSTC if I am in Class 12?

Yes. Candidates who appeared or are appearing in the 2026 Senior Secondary exam can apply, but they must show the passing marksheet with the required percentage by counselling.

Is a graduate eligible for BSTC?

Yes, if the Class 12 marks and age fit. A degree is not required, and the notification does not say a graduate is barred. Age (28 years) is the usual limit that stops graduates.

Can candidates from other states apply?

Yes, but only in the General category and only for up to 5 per cent of the seats, on merit. Reservation applies only to Rajasthan domicile holders.

Which stream is required for BSTC?

The notification asks for a Higher Secondary or equivalent pass; it does not name a stream. Arts, Commerce and Science students are all eligible.

Can Divyang candidates apply?

Yes, with a certificate of 40 per cent or more disability from a medical board. Candidates whose disability blocks classroom teaching, such as complete deafness or being unable to speak, are not eligible. Blind and other disabilities are eligible.

What documents prove eligibility?

Class 10 and 12 marksheets, category certificate, Rajasthan domicile (mool niwas) certificate, sub-category certificates and, for widows or divorced women, the death certificate or court decree plus a notarised affidavit of no remarriage.
